FAQS

WHAT DOES A LOVE COACH DO?

First and foremost, our role is to truly listen to you what you have to say.  This is your life, and so the actions you take and the goals you set have to be your own — not ours or anyone else's.  Our role is to be objective and offer observations and be a sounding board for your ideas.  We will push you, support you, laugh with you, and encourage you to stretch and grow as a gay man, building on your personal strengths and encourage you to look at your life from a different perspective.  We also ensure that professional boundaries are maintained within the coaching relationship and that your confidentiality is honored.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

Love Coaching begins with an initial assessment session with either Juan or Gee, in which together we identify what it is that you are hoping to achieve.  We examine your current opportunities and barriers, talk about the coaching relationship, what key things you want to work on and what results you would like to see.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Coaching sessions are conducted in-person, through telephone conference calls or the use of internet connectivity (e.g. Skype or FaceTime).  This allows you to schedule your sessions at a time when you have the privacy and the time to speak freely.  Sessions generally last 50 minutes and are held weekly or bi-weekly depending on your needs.  We often assign specific tasks for you to accomplish (yes, there is homework!) between sessions.  These may be actions you need to take or resources you need to investigate.

HOW LONG DO CLIENTS AND COACHES WORK TOGETHER?

That depends on your needs and your preference.  Typically, a coaching relationship is contracted for a particular period of time, usually 3 to 6 months.  Some people find that it is helpful to engage for a period of time, then renew as needed, while others prefer to commit to a longer coaching relationship right from the beginning.  How much and how often you need coaching is based on the types of goals you are trying to achieve, the time and energy you can commit to creating change in your life, and your financial resources for a coaching relationship.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOVE COACHING AND THERAPY?

Therapy focuses on what has happened in your past and how to correct what was wrong in order to improve who you are in the present.  Most often, therapy or counseling is necessary if your emotional states about past events — depression, anxiety, guilt and conflict — get in the way of your setting and achieving goals.

Coaching focuses on clarifying what your goals are now and helping you get from where you are to where you want to be in your life.  Keep in mind that even the most practiced and successful people maintain personal coaches to help them continually improve, to guide and motivate them towards greater successes.

At times, Love Coaching may blur the lines between therapy and coaching in order to attain a deeper level of self-awareness, clarity, and expansion.
